Saturday Mail Delivery Not a Show Stopper for Video Rental

With all the talk about the USPS cancelling mail delivery on saturdays, the millions of video rental subscribers who plan their weekend entertainment around the postman's knock are gripped with apprehension.

For several years movie-by-mail providers like Netflix and lately Blockbuster have relied on the trusted and reliable credo of the postman to deliver the mail through all kinds of adverse weather conditions-rain, snow, hurricane and even tornado.

However, with the USPS having to compete with the most ubiquitous of mail delivery methods-email, and the drastic effect its had on its revenue, something had to give eventually. Hence, the talk of eliminating saturday mail delivery might indeed be an inevitable reality.

The question is, how will the decision impact the video rental providers and its so far loyal subscribers. Considering that millions of Netflix subscribers have ventured into the technological wonderland of streaming movies directly to their computers, TV's or Blu ray payers, could this have the unintended consequence of galvanizing subscribers to adapt to this new way of watching movies online, sooner than anticipated.

Furthermore, while the video rental providers fret at the notion, of losing delivery on saturdays, it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for their bottom-line.
